John Edgar Rayford, 72, died June 27 at the Tate House in Linthicum.
Born in Washington, D.C. on October 18, 1940, he was the eldest son of the late Elmer Carr Rayford and Elva Izora Coghill Rayford. He was a life-long resident of Anne Arundel County, including North Shore and Davidsonville. Mr. Rayford was a 1959 graduate of Glen Burnie High School, and worked for several Glen Burnie auto dealerships. Eventually, he formed his own company which dealt with car repossessions. The last several decades, Mr. Rayford was sole proprietor of United Skip & Collection (USC) in Davidsonville. For most of his life, he was a car enthusiast, engine builder and involved in drag racing.
He is survived by two brothers, Eddy Carr Rayford (Barbara) of Bluffton, S.C., and David William Rayford (Peggy) of North Shore; sister, JoAnn Rayford of Annapolis; three nephews, Brian Rayford of Sykesville, Sean Rayford of Columbia, SC, and Larry Rayford of Pasadena.
A celebration of life will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. on Saturday, July 27, at the Columbian Center, 335 Ritchie Hwy., Severna Park.
