Rescue personnel responded to the 700 block of Central Avenue W. in Davidsonville at 1 a.m. on Sunday morning and found a wrecked Ford Mustang convertible which had struck a telephone pole according to police spokesman Justin Mulcahy.
The pole and wires fell on the car and it took firefighters 40 minutes to extricate the 18-year-old driver and the 17-year-old girl riding with him, fire department spokesman Capt. Michael Pfaltzgraff said.
The driver, Evan McGee, is a senior at South River High School per county schools spokesman Bob Mosier.
McGee and the girl were taken by ambulance to the Maryland Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore with serious but non-life threatening injuries. McGee was later released, but as of Monday morning, the girl, whose name was not released, remained at the hospital with her condition changed to critical.
