Rose Mary Fridrich Passes Away


      Rose Mary DiStefano Fridrich (nee Maggio), 93, of Harwood, MD passed away on July 11, 2015. She was born September 19, 1921 in Annapolis to the late Rosario (Sam) and Rosa Maggio, former owners of La Rosa’s Restaurant in Annapolis. Rose Mary is survived by her daughter, Irene DiStefano (Richard) Statom of Florence, AL; brother, Harry J. (Gerry) Maggio, Sr. of Annapolis; step-children, Fran Fridrich of Harwood, Suzanne Fridrich of Baltimore, Edmund Fridrich of Melbourne, FL and Thomas (Molly) Fridrich of Harwood; three step-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
      Rose Mary graduated from St. Mary’s Elementary School in Annapolis, Notre Dame of Maryland High School in 1939 and Annapolis Business College in 1942. She retired from the State of Maryland in 1983 after 35 years of service, working in the Hall of Records, Department of Natural Resources and Maryland Income Tax Division. After she retired, Rose Mary taught crafts at the South County Senior Center in Edgewater.
      She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville and formerly of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Annapolis. She was a Past Treasurer of the Annapolis Chapter of the Order of the Sons of Italy and Past President of Anne Arundel County Business & Professional Women’s Club. In 1991, long before Dancing With the Stars, at the age of 70, Rose Mary performed in amateur Ballroom Dancing Competitions.
      Rose Mary was preceded in death by her husbands, Dominick C. DiStefano and Edmund T. Fridrich; brother, Joseph J. Maggio and sister, Anna H. Gonzalez.
      The family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation to Rose Cabrales and Marissa and George Padua for the loving care Rose Mary received at Riva Terrace 6 Assisted Living.
      A visitation will be held at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater, MD on Tuesday, July 14 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W.
