Sylvia Estella Johnson, 72, of Edgewater, MD, passed away at her residence on May 15, 2015. Born in Renovo, PA to June Graebner of both Mill Hall and Summerson Mountain, PA and the late Alvin “Cy” Graebner, Sylvia graduated from the University of Maryland and pursued post-graduate studies at Loyola University Maryland. She pursued a career in teaching, primarily at the kindergarten level.
A warrior for the Lord, Sylvia was a fervent reader of the Bible and attended Chesapeake Christian Fellowship in Davidsonville. She loved going to the beach and spending time with her children, granddaughter and great-grandchildren.
Sylvia was preceded in death by her husband of 27 years, Allan D. “A.D.” Johnson, who died in 1982, sister, June Louise Graebner-Glenn and brother, Dennis “Mac” McEachran.
In addition to her mother, Sylvia is survived by two children, Cynthia Johnson and Grant Allan Johnson, both of Edgewater; one sister, Diana Graebner-McEachran of Edgewater; granddaughter, Ashton Johnson and her partner, Christopher Rogers; two great-grandsons, Christopher and Bradlee Allan; two nieces, D Molleigh Graebner-McEachran and Shelly Fabian; goddaughter, Tamy Julian and many other family members and friends.
Friends are invited to celebrate Sylvia’s life on Monday, May 25, from 1 p.m. until her funeral service begins at 3 p.m. at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road in Edgewater.
A second visitation will be held on Wednesday, May 27, beginning at 1 p.m. and followed by a funeral service at 3 p.m. at the Maxwell Funeral Home, 205 Fifth Street, Renovo, PA.
Interment will be at the North Bend Cemetery in Pennsylvania.
