Melissa Gonzalez, a natural resources conservation volunteer, is combining her service with graduate study at UMD through the Peace Corps’ Master’s International program. She credits UMD with helping to prepare her for service in Ecuador, where she works to reduce threats to natural areas and habitats by improving waste management.
“It is challenging, but an extremely fun and rewarding experience,” said Gonzalez, 27, a native of Davidsonville, Md. “As an international experience, you improve your fluency in another language, immerse yourself into a new culture, improve your leadership skills, gain project management experience, and make new friends.”
