Senior Liam Kelly (Davidsonville) enjoyed a productive career at Yale and
was a member of three Ivy League championship clubs, but he also experienced some disappointment as the Yale Bulldogs were beaten in the first
round of the NCAA Tournament his freshman, sophomore and junior seasons.
This year, third-seeded
Yale exorcised those playoff demons by making a
magical run to the national title, beating No. 4 Duke 13-11 in Monday’s
championship game.
It was somewhat bittersweet for Kelly, who watched the Final
Four from the stands at Gillette Stadium. Kelly
missed his entire senior season after undergoing foot surgery in January. He
remained an important part of the team as a senior leader, attending every
practice and game while serving as a student coach.
