Alexandra Brown Gets Award

South River High Student Achiever Award
Alexandra “Alex” Brown is an outstanding student and has a huge heart to help others in need. She’s volunteered for the Make a Wish Foundation, Toys for Tots, and the Angioma Alliance. She’s a frequent volunteer at the Wellness House of Annapolis and she’s been one of their summer counselors at Paint Your Rainbow Camp.
She also tutors at Central Middle School for the National Honors Society and has been a counselor at Shooters Basketball Camp since the 6th grade.
Much of Alex’s time is spent fundraising to help fight cancer. Most notably, she’s been involved with the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life walkathon for three years and is the captain of this year’s team. She’s also raised funds for St. Baldrick’s, an organization that fights childhood cancer, for eight years. Because of her passion to find a cure, she was selected as the Vice-President of the Kids Fighting Cancer Club.
Alex is most passionate about serving students who have special needs.
She’s been a member of Best Buddies since 6th grade, Unified Tennis for three years, Unified Dance for one year, and is co-captain of South River High School’s Polar Bear Plunge team. Using her athletic talents, Alex has coached adaptive lacrosse for the Davidsonville Athletic Association for four years, is a Youth Board Member for adaptive lacrosse, and has coached in the Special Olympics. She’s also been a volunteer at Camp Mayo (for children with disabilities) and has assisted at holiday parties at Central Special School.
