Davidsonville's Madison Carter and the fourth-seeded Penn State women’s lacrosse team advanced to its second-consecutive NCAA National Semifinals after defeating Princeton, 14-12, on Sunday, May 21, in the quarterfinals.
The The Penn State University Nittany Lions will battle top-seeded Maryland at 5 p.m. on Friday at Gillette Stadium in the first semifinal before Boston College battles Navy to determine the two teams who will compete for a National Championship at 11 a.m. on Sunday. Both semifinals are available on ESPN3 and will be tape delayed on ESPNU on Saturday at 7 and 9 p.m., respectively. The National Championship game will air live on ESPNU.
Penn State and Maryland will meet for the 55th time on Friday with the Terrapins holding a 39-14-1 advantage.
Maryland is Penn State’s most frequent opponent in women’s lacrosse as the two teams have played every season since 1973.
The Terps have won the last 12 meetings and 28 of the last 29 dating back to 1992.
In 2016 Penn State nearly defeated the Terps taking the 8-7 lead with just 10:27 to play after three consecutive goals, but Maryland used a 3-1 run to close the game and secure the one-goal victory, 10-9.
