Michael Casey Passes Away


    Michael James Casey "Mike", 86, of Edgewater, MD passed away on Sunday, February 5, 2017 surrounded by his loved ones in Naples, FL. 
    Born on February 17, 1930 in Castlemore on a farm on the outskirts of Ballaghaderreen, County Roscommon, Ireland to the late Martin and Mary Kate Keenoy Casey, Mike (aka Jimmy) was the youngest of 5 siblings. He immigrated to the U.S. in April of 1949 aboard the SS Washington in Cobh, County Cork, Ireland. Mike served in the United States Air Force for 12 years. After several stops during his tours of duty, Mike was stationed at Andrews Air Force Base and decided to settle in the Washington, D.C. area. He began a 50 plus year career in real estate as a salesman, broker, property developer and investor. In 1968, he started Mike Casey Realty and later became co-owner of Realty Executives of Annapolis. He served as National Director of the National Association of Realtors and as President of the Prince Georges County Association of Realtors. For a number of years, Mike co-owned Ireland's Own restaurant in Alexandria, VA, a favorite watering hole of Washingtonian insiders. Mike was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was an avid tennis player, golfer and lover of life. In addition to his parents,
    Mike was preceded in death by his first wife, Kathleen Moran Casey; his brothers, Thomas and Martin Casey and his sisters, Agnes and Rosaleen Rooney. His amazing life will forever be cherished by his loving wife of 30 years, Mary Reid Casey; his children, Linda (Gary) Connell, Michael J. (Nancy) Casey, Jr., John Casey, Kathleen (Dr. Geoffrey) Saunders and Thomas (Juliet) Casey and his 15 grandchildren, Garrett, Gavin, Liam, Michael, Gina, Joseph, Shane, Conor, Geoffrey, Cameron, Kathleen, Ciara, Colleen, Joseph, and Bella.
    Friends are invited to celebrate Mike's life on Friday, February 10 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 pm at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Rd., Edgewater, MD. A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 10 am on Saturday, February 11 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville, MD. Entombment will follow at Resurrection Cemetery Mausoleum in Clinton, MD. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made, in Mike's name, to Avow Hospice, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105.
