Herbert Moreland Passes Away

Herbert Carlin Moreland, 90, a resident of Davidsonville and previously of Lothian, died August 15, at Anne Arundel Medical Center.
Herbert was born in Lothian on January 4, 1926, to Herbert and Mary Woodfield Moreland. He attended Southern High School and enlisted in the military at the age of 18. He was a WWII combat veteran, a surveyor with the 292nd Field Artillery Observation Battalion. He served in France and Germany during the war and was among the first group of servicemen to enter the Dachau Nazi Concentration Camp after the liberation. His military service was from March 1944 until May 1946. In 1950, Herbert married Margaret (Peggy) Moreland of Davidsonville, and they made their home in Galesville before building their home in Lothian. He worked for Woodfield's Fish & Oyster Company in Galesville and Arundel Gas Company in Edgewater. Like his military service, Herbert believed strongly in giving back to his community. His many hours of volunteer service included his positions of leadership at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, the Lothian Rurtian Club and the London Town Publik House in Edgewater.
In addition to his parents, Herbert was preceded in death by his wife, Peggy Moreland; and his sister, Irma Marie. He is survived by his daughter, Denise Toney and husband Eddie, of Davidsonville; his grandson, Josh Norfolk, of Deale; sisters, Norma Wayson, of Davidsonville, and Lorraine Perry, of Tracy's Landing; and brothers, Ronald Moreland, of Vero Beach, FL, and Wayne Moreland, of Marion, VA.
A memorial service will be held at the Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Lothian, on Saturday, September 3. Visitation with the family will be held at 10:00 am, with the memorial service to follow at 11:00 am. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Mt.
