Mary Markuski Passes Away

Mary Margaret Markuski of Davidsonville, Maryland formerly of Bowie, Maryland, passed away on Wednesday, August 08, 2018.
Mary is the wife of the late Victor P. Markuski, USMC (Ret.); mother of Kathy Nordeen, Paul David Markuski and his wife Deborah, V. Peter Markuski, Jr. and his wife Linda, and Michael Andrew Markuski and his wife Barbara; sister of Kate Catloth; grandmother of Tiffany Gardner and her husband Kenneth, Victor Markuski III and his wife Nicole, Christina Fabac and her husband Joel and Steven Markuski. Mary was preceded in death by one sister, Emma, and one brother, Buddy.
A memorial gathering was held on Sunday, August 12, 2018, and interment will take place at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date, so she can rest in peace with Vic.
Mary was a leader in the Bowie community throughout the decades and passed away peacefully surrounded by family. Mary and Vic bought their Country Club dream home in Bowie in 1965 and watched it being built. Mary was instrumental in organizing, what was then, the Belair Boys Club Women's Auxiliary in the 1970's and ran for City Council of Bowie in 1975. She volunteered for Hubert Humphrey and Steny Hoyer. She was very active at the DAV and the Senior Center, organizing many activities and serving on the board. She proudly became the Queen of a newly-created local chapter of the Red Hat Society. She was always quick with a slew of jokes and an occasional song, and always won at Trivial Pursuit. She was an avid Redskin and Terrapin fan and very opinionated about sports, politics and current events. In the end her body failed her, but her mind never did.
