Allen Furlan Passes Away

Davidsonville, MD – Allen J. Furlan, 85, passed away on Saturday, August 4 at home after a long illness.
Born in Cleveland, Ohio to the late Sophie (Kresinsky) and Joseph G. Furlan, he is preceded in death by his brother, Joseph W. Furlan. He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sachiko Furlan; his daughters, Deborah Furlan Kane (David) and Michele Boutwell (Bart); his grandchildren, Louisa Kane and Sophie Boutwell; his brother James G. Furlan; his sister Susan F. Zielinski (Albert); and many loved nieces and nephews.
Allen graduated from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. Upon graduation, he served as an Engineering Duty Officer in the U.S. Navy in Japan. After returning to the San Francisco Bay area, he moved east with his young family to continue a career in the fields of engineering, finance and economics. He retired from the Senior Executive Service of the U.S. Federal Government. Allen was a gentle, curious and introspective man of simple pleasures. His love of his family -- and puppy dogs -- was lifelong. He will be remembered most for his sense of humor. A special thank you to Deborah Booze and Kwasi Addo for their loving care during his last years of illness.
A private memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation in Allen's memory to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary. Online condolences may be left for the family at www.hardestyfuneralhome.com.
