Pat Spencer Plays First NBA Game

DAVIDSONVILLE, MD - Davidsonville native Pat Spencer made his NBA debut this weekend with the Golden State Warriors.

Spencer attended high school at Boys' Latin in Baltimore. He was then a college lacrosse star for Loyola Maryland. He switched to basketball, however, after a decorated college lacrosse career.

“I’m fired up to be part of a great organization with great people,” 27-year-old Spencer wrote in a text to The Capital

Spencer won the Tewaaraton Award in 2019, honoring him as the nation's best college lacrosse player. He also set the NCAA Division I record for career assists with 231 and ranked No. 2 on the all-time points list with 380 by the time he finished lacrosse.

Spencer was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 Premier Lacrosse League Draft, but he never signed.

Spencer instead switched to college basketball, playing a single season for Northwestern in the 2019-20 campaign as a graduate student.
