DAA Football Participation Drops

The Davidsonville Athletic Association has been hit hard by the drop in youth football participation across Anne Arundel County. In 2013, the organization fielded seven tackle football teams in AAYFA competition. This year, it has just one, in the 11-year-old classification.
Ruben Pavon, football commissioner for the DAA Gators last year, took notice.
“I had to do something as a commissioner. What can I do to bring kids in?” Pavon said.
Through an internet search, he found a program that intrigued him called Junior Development League (JDL) Football. JDL’s unique format soon convinced Pavon to implement it in Davidsonville. The program is the first of its kind in Maryland, and now, several weeks into the season, 40 children ages 8 to 11 from across the county are participating.
