Shirley Ann Choulis Passes Away


    Shirley Ann Choulis, 81, a 52-year resident of Riva and previously of New Carrollton, MD, passed away on August 27, 2017 at the Anne Arundel Medical Center.
    Shirley was born in Washington, DC to the late Elmer and Evelyn Wines. After graduating from high school, she married and raised two children, Debra and Gary. Upon their graduations from high school, she worked in sales at the former Woodward and Lothrop and Hecht Company department stores. Then she worked in real estate, specializing in model home sales. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Davidsonville and the Red Hat Ladies. Her favorite pastime was playing bingo.
    Shirley was preceded in death by her son, Gary Choulis. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years, George E. Choulis; one daughter, Debra A. (Ben) Tall of Crofton; a brother, Elmer M. (Connie) Wines, Jr.; one grandson, Nicholas Tall; three granddaughters, April Croissant, Elisabeth Hasbrouck and Michelle Vukmanic; and six great-grandchildren.
    Friends are invited to celebrate Shirley's life from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. on Friday, September 1 at the George P. Kalas Funeral Home, 2973 Solomons Island Road, Edgewater. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at 11 a.m. on Saturday, September 2 in the chapel at Holy Family Catholic Church, 826 W. Central Avenue, Davidsonville. Interment will follow at Lakemont Memorial Gardens.
