Arundel VFD Gets New Pumper

This Saturday, July 16,  11 a.m.-1 p.m.: The Arundel Volunteer Fire Department will host the official "Housing" of its new Engine 71 Pierce Arrow XT Pumper. The public is invited to check out the new engine and enjoy lunch. The AVFD is located at 2380 Davidsonville Road in Gambrills.
A pumper truck is the one that fights the fires, said Chief Dave Ayres. It holds 750 gallons of water and hooks up to the fire hydrants and pumps all the water, a total of 1,500 gallons per minute. It carries all the equipment to fight a fire.
The AVFD averages 4,000 emergency responses annually, serving 30,000 people. The purchase of the engine was made possible by the community fund raising efforts throughout the year.
