Ronald Hooker Passes Away
Ronald Hooker passed away peacefully on May 13, 2024 after a valiant battle with leukemia. Born on October 13, 1962 in Washington, DC to the late John and Mary Hooker, Ron graduated from Dulaney High School then proceeded to earn his BS in Electrical Engineering from the University of Delaware. He went on to earn his Masters degree from Johns Hopkins University and Doctorate of Science from The George Washington University while working for more than 30 years at NOAA and NASA.
Ron was an avid runner who often challenged himself to compete in ultra marathons. He was training for a 100 mile race when he was diagnosed with leukemia and completed the Cherry Blossom 10-miler just days before being informed of his relapse. He appreciated the friendships and motivation he gained from the local running community. Ron enjoyed watching his boys compete in high school sports and looked forward to seeing them graduate from high school and college. He also looked forward to seeing the Orioles win a World Series and the Ravens win a Super Bowl. Ron is survived by his wife of 22 years, Mindy Hooker; his sons, John and Henry Hooker; his brothers, Mark and Joseph Hooker; his loyal companions, Fenwick and Winston and his cousins and extended family located in the UK. A family member wondered why death was the only thing Ron was ever early for. Friends and family are invited to celebrate Ron’s life on Sunday, June 2, 2024 from 1 to 4 pm at the Harbor Hills Clubhouse, 1 Carson Cove, Davidsonville, MD 21035. In lieu of flowers, please consider donating blood or platelets at your local Red Cross or blood bank.
